Beta
Whether spelled as 'beta' or 'betta', this beautiful fish is sometimes known as a Siamese Fighting Fish and is always a member of the Gourami family. In the real world, they have been known to attack smaller fish, but they generally behave peaceably in the tank, especially if they are glass.
They are freshwater creatures, but If you stock your tank, or your windowsill, with glass renditions of betta fish, you won't need to worry about that. They would also be consuming a simple diet of worms and insect larvae, but feeding requirements become moot under these circumstances.
Bottle Fish
Glass fish performing double-duty as bottles appear in great virtual schools on eBay. Green, blue, clear, and amber styles can be bid upon every day. Large bottles holding upwards of 40 ounces appear regularly. Schools of tiny glass fish bottles also dot the virtual landscape.
Early Egyptian craftspeople fashioned many examples of glass fish bottles, all manually. The British Museum regularly displays examples of original Egyptian glass fish from as long ago as 1350 BC, but you can order less expensive reproductions on eBay.
Egyptian artisans created fish-shaped molds out of clay. They poured molten glass over the mold, decorated it with colorful glass droppings, and then carefully scraped out the clay through the mouth. It was a painstaking process that resulted in a beautiful collectors item for a royal family member. There was no eBay in the 14th century BC: orders were placed via clay tablet or official edict.
