Do Your Hubs Have Revenue Potential?

Updated on May 15, 2012

Do you revenue?

Earning money online working less than 5 hours a week represents the third-most popular Internet activity. Certainly we all crave more free time filled with automatic riches gleaned from tiny clicks on banner ads provided by advertising behemoths.

Income potential of your hubs seems somehow tied to proper analysis of keywords and liberal application of tags, capsules, boldface type, and strategic backlinks from reputable sources. It's not fun but no ever got wealthy watching TV, except the Nielsen family.

Where do the Ads come from?

Google computers consider several different parameters when selecting the advertisements to be displayed on your hubs. Should your reader be sufficiently lucky to posses browser cookies from google-influenced sites, information in those cookies contributes to the recipe. Since mighty Google publishes ads on thousands of sites, your activities are well known to them. Using Hotels.com to browse bed-and-breakfast possibilities in the Ozarks will influence ads published on a hub touting the Top 10 Power Tools for Agronomists.

Google also considers the content of the hub, except when they don't. Inexplicable ads for bathtub flotation devices and Democratic Congressional candidates seem to pop up on hubs explaining the nuances of finding employment after graduating from DVD repair school. Sometimes ad rotations trump common sense.

Does your hub contain properly configured eBay Capsules?

Selling eBay junque provides another revenue stream for hubbers. Simply drop in an eBay capsule. Powerful eBay computers carefully parse the title of your article and present auction items almost but not quite completely unrelated to your subject matter. Don't overlook the possibility of overriding those search terms when configuring the capsule. Consider trimming your eBay parameters to focus on items related to the paragraphs adjacent.

Identifying proper eBay auction search terms takes time and practice. Be careful when manipulating the search terms. eBay auction items are transient. A typical eBay auction lasts 7-10 days. Your eBay capsules appear relatively relevant today but tomorrow your exemplary hub extolling the virtues of bathroom tile grout may be sporting eBay auctions for sporting goods.

Does your hub have too many product listings?

HubPages hates hubs holding excessive product listings. In other words, carefully attend to your ratio of words to advertisements. Expect to be digitally chastised if the ratio drops below 50. This number is published by HubPages and subject to change should Google sneeze in their general direction. After all, we have an obligation to commit ourselves toward high quality writing with little or no overt selling, like PBS.

Does your Hub have enough words?

Google employs employees highly skilled in the art of reading words. They program computers to actually perform the reading for them, but guess who takes home the paycheck at the end of the week?

Your hubs are expected to contain these words combined into proper sentences which blend into paragraphs interlocking into a ballet of classy authorship. Should your words fall short of expected parameters, your hubs will not be indexed. Google will ignore you like a tomato slice on a double bacon hamburger with extra bacon.

Revenue potential should be reached as word volumes reach somewhere between 300 and 1000 words. This hubber published two hubs totaling over 5000 words each: Google couldn't have cared less. The same hubber offered up a hub of less than 400 words and Google lavished much index love upon it, for several different keywords.

Do your product capsules match your text?

Don't try to sell Frito's unless you write about Frito's. HubPages computers have no sense of humor. It's all fun and games until someone reports your writing to someone else with the administrator password.

You may find yourself revising and resubmitting. While fun and challenging, this activity is time-consuming and speculative. Hubs that coexisted for years suddenly become unpublished and stigmatized. Your readers will be dazed and confused.

Do you need a flashlight?

Even the most ardent authors bump into writer's block on occasion. Allowing a hub to percolate until creative juices begin reflowing in the mental kitchen sink tends to produce bad metaphors, in this writer's ardent opinion.

Sometimes you simply need to crank out a closing paragraph easily tied to an eBay capsule encapsulating products that never go out of style. Configure the capsule, then write to the results. Let eBay be your guide. No sentient human, except your Mother, would read this much of your work anyway. And she would probably love a flashight. There used to be an eBay capsule featuring flashlights to your immediate right. I was told that it was misleading. I happily removed it.

After careful consideration...

5 stars for this hub without eBay product listings
